September 28, 2011   “Iris:  Cultural Information and More!”
How do I cultivate my iris and keep them growing and beautiful?  When should I divide them?  A Master Judge of the American Iris Society, Katharine Steele, will present an informative program on the cultivation of a variety of iris in the Charlotte area.  We will learn how to care for the iris, what we should feed them, and much more.

October 26, 2011  “Using Native Plants to Attract the Monarch Butterfly”
Nancy Devries from Wild Birds’ Unlimited will present an educational program on native plants in Charlotte.  What has happened to all the native plants?  How does the monarch butterfly depend upon native plants for its survival?

November 16, 2011  “Have You Read a Good (Gardening) Book Lately?”
Sally Brewster from Park Road Books will review several gardening books with us. She will critique novels, mysteries about gardening, and books for children.  You just might find an idea for a gift from her selection!

January 25, 2012  “Living Green:  Home Solutions”
Terri Bennett, former Chief Meteorologist for NBC affiliate in Charlotte will speak about reducing, reusing, and recycling.  Her work in forecasting the weather fueled her passion to protect the planet.  Her natural gardening techniques and segments about protecting our water supply earned numerous awards.

February  22, 2012  “Master Gardener:  What does it take to become a master gardener?”
A panel of master gardeners, led by Susan Hooper, will provide information on becoming a master gardener.  Should I become a Master Gardener?  What kinds of activities/opportunities are available?  Who can become a Master Gardener?  What are the benefits of becoming a Master Gardener?

March 28, 2012   “Why Am I So Afraid of Flower Design?”
Enjoy a Design Challenge Demonstration presented by three of our local judges during which we will learn what the judges are looking for in a design and why. We will learn  ways to create an award-winning arrangement!

April 25, 2012   “Organic Plant Health in the Garden”  
Spring is a great time to begin thinking about growing plants and vegetables and taking care of pests that invade our space— organically.  Billy Styles of Organic Plant Health in Matthews will get us started in our 2012 gardens.   We will learn how to use organic-based products for healthy turf, trees, shrubs, gardens, flower and ornamental beds as well as the healthy control of insect
infestation and disease.
